Dennison’s Retail Lumber has 1st
anniversary
Dennison’s recently held a ribbon cutting
ceremony in honor of its first anniversary. They opened their doors
last April on the north side of Shawano, after Rod Dennison bought Retail Lumber, and joined the WRBA shortly
thereafter. An email was sent to all WRBA members that have
provided the association with an email address to invite them to the event. There were a number of members in attendance. Good luck to WRBA Rep Cody
Bessette and crew at Dennison’s Retail Lumber.
Hollow Core Doors Needed…
Dave Theis with KPT Carpenters was contacted by a
member of the Shawano Sheriff’s Department to see if any of our builder members might have any hollow core doors
they would be interested in getting rid of…any condition. They
would be used by the Department for target use. If you have any
doors to donate, contact Dave at 715-787-4691 or Diane at 715-853-2310.
The 2010 HIRE Act
The President recently signed into law the “Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act of 2010”
(the 2010 HIRE Act.) There are two main components of the act
that affect many employers:
1.
Payroll Tax Holiday - To help stimulate
the hiring of workers by the private sector, the new law exempts any private-sector employer that hires a
worker who had been unemployed for at least 60 days from having to pay the employer's 6.2% share of the
Social Security payroll tax on that employee for the remainder of 2010.
2.
Credit for Retained Workers - As an
additional incentive, the HIRE Act also created a credit for new employees who are retained for at least
52 weeks. The employer is eligible for an additional
non-refundable tax credit of up to $1,000 after the 52-week threshold is reached.
In some cases, there are restrictions or limitations that apply.
If you have specific questions about how the new law applies to your business or organization,
please call WRBA member Steve Grover at Kerber, Rose &
Associates for a free consultation on this new tax law. His
number is 715-526-9400.
Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing starts
July 17
Submitted by Cellcom
Beginning July 17 people within the 715 area code will be required to dial 10 digits (area
code + seven-digit number) when making a call from any phone. This is being done to prepare for the addition of
the 534 area code to the 715 region. The increasing demand for phone numbers prompted the need for new area
codes and the use of 10-digit calling nationwide.
The
Public Service Commission of Wisconsin ordered an overlay of the 715 area code to ensure that businesses and
consumers continue to have access to telephone numbers from their carrier of choice. This overlay does not
require any existing customers to change their area code or telephone number, but callers are required to change
the way they dial local calls.
The most
important facts about the upcoming 534 area code overlay are:
-
Beginning on July 17,
2010, customers in the 715 area code must use the new 10-digit dialing procedure for all local calls. After this date, local calls made
without the area code will not complete and a recording will instruct callers to hang up and dial again.
-
The dialing procedure for long distance or operator assisted calls will not
change.
· All customers with a 715 area code
telephone number today will keep the 715 area code
for that number.
· Phone numbers with the new 534 area code
may be assigned beginning August 14, 2010.
-
The price of a call, local and long-distance calling areas and other rates and services of
your provider will not change as a result of the area code overlay. What is a local call now will remain a
local call regardless of the number of digits dialed.
-
You will still dial three
digits to reach 911. If 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 and 811 are currently available in your community, or from
your provider, you will still dial them with just three digits.
In
addition to changing their local dialing procedure, remember to reprogram automatic dialing equipment such as,
life safety systems, fax machines, Internet dial-up numbers, alarm and security systems, speed dial,
call-forward settings, etc.

“Tips” of the Week from Cellcom
For Blackberry
phones:
When navigating your message inbox on a Blackberry, you can move to
the next date in your message list by pressing “N” and to the previous date by pressing “P”. You can also skip
to the top of the message list by pressing “T” and the bottom of the list by pressing “B”. This is helpful when
looking for messages from a specific date.
For all cell
phones:
When listening to a voicemail you can pause the message that is
playing by pressing “1”. To resume playing the message, simply press “1”again.
Cellcom also provided me
with an informational PDF that was provided to Cellcom by RIM, the makers of Blackberry. It gives information
about the LinkedIn Application for Blackberry. If you have a
Blackberry, especially new users, and would be interested in this information I would be willing to forward it
to you. Contact Diane for more information at
715-853-2310.
