Tax Credit Will Expire Soon
(From NAHB Public Affairs,
September 18, 2009
As of today there are 74 days left
until $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit expires.
The credit has had a positive
impact on home sales; yesterday the Internal Revenue Service issued a press release stating that more than 1.4
million tax payers have already claimed a first-time home buyer tax credit.
It is important to continue to promote the credit, even though in most cases
purchases of new-construction homes would not be completed in time to take advantage of it. Sales of existing
homes now will still benefit the home building industry over the coming months as sellers—who wouldn't qualify
as first-time buyers anyway—will be able to buy move-up homes.
We want to remind you that NAHB has a set of resources to help members and HBAs
promote the tax credit, including fact sheets, Web site ads, consumer brochures and more.
